“Who Told You That”

fear

Have you ever had to face a situation when you felt like “I don’t think I can do that”? Do you ever ask yourself “Who told you that”?  Well that little guy on your shoulder called, “F.E.A.R.” comes and paralyzes and makes you feel like there is no way out.

I am reminded of the story of David and Goliath.  Goliath,  a ten-foot intimidating man, armed with lots of artillery, seemed untouchable to all of the Israelites.  His mission was to defy Israel.  Whenever the Israelites saw him, they all fled from him in great fear. David watched how the Israelites were afraid of Goliath.  Yet all Goliath had to do was speak, make some threats, boast about his strength and mock and laugh how he would be the one to take over Israel.  They were afraid and discouraged.  David never seemed intimated or moved by all of the commotions that was taking place across the way.  But we must be like David and say, “Let no one lose heart on account of this, I will go and fight.”

The acronym for F.E.A.R is “False Evidence Appearing Real.” When the Israelites looked at their situation it seemed enormous from their side, believable and discouraging.  You may be terrified and taken by fear like the Israelites.  You may be saying,  ” I am not going to make it through this.”  This situation is screaming and telling you “It is never going to change.”  You may have tried to put on different artillery to help you fight like Saul was doing with David.

But David knew who represented him and said, “I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied.”  David ran in his authority toward Goliath and took him down and even stood on top of him after he struck him down! Go, David!

I have had many F.E.A.R.’s shouting out at me from across the way.  Especially when the Lord began showing me the promises of my life and things he called me to do. That Goliath continued to shout and tell me, “Who do you think you are”, “You will not be able to do that” and many  others that paralyzed and became ruler over me.” Eventually, I had to respond like David and run towards my Goliath. I had to take my Goliath down and not with my words but in the authority that the Lord has given me!

So are you going to stand and watch from the sidelines and allow Goliath to continue to shout at you?

Life Application

  1. Ask: Who told you that & What is your F.E.A.R  (False, Evidence, Appearing, Real)
  2. Prepare for battle: ARM yourself (the word of God) & know your Authority
    • All those gathered here will know that it is not by sword or spear that the Lord saves; for the battle is the Lord’s, and he will give all of you into our hands.”  (1st Samuel 17:47)
    • Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.” (Joshua 1:9)
  3. Take Action:  Face your fears and stomp all over them. Remember that God is the one that is representing and going before you!
