Stains & Residue

stain1As I was doing my laundry,  I came across a sports bra that I use and noticed that after I washed it, it still had some residue left.  I thought to myself” I’m going to need a special stain remover to lift those stains.  As I walked away ” I heard the Lord tell me you have some residue still left in your heart.  Some of those have been hard to remove and you are choosing not to deal with those.  It is going to require more than just a wash to remove those.

I am in the business of helping people through different life challenges that they are facing.  I have a way of drawing things out of people and being that my degree is in Psychology it just comes with the territory.  I like to analyze, observe, give life application and get into the hearts of people.  Have you ever asked a question knowing that you don’t really want to know the answer?  Or knowing that the answer will cause a sting or that you are not going to like the response at all.  I am one of those people, especially after receiving the answer and do not like the sting!  So, I was hesitant in asking God, but I did.  God, “Show me the stains.”

I have had stains that left some heavy duty residue behind, that crippled and choked the life out of me, while others were completely lifted.  I started to hone in on the different stains that had been washed time and time again and continued to leave a residue upon my heart.”  Due to my upbringing, those closest to me had violated my trust and used words that stripped my identity, which left different types of residue in my heart, even today.  To name a few, fear of failure, rejection, unworthiness, not pretty enough and not qualified…..

Throughout life,  I fooled myself into thinking I was healed or that I addressed those past residues but the reality was, there was still some that God wanted to address and uproot. “The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately sick; who can understand it (Jeremiah 17:9, English Standard Version).

Are you ready to apply some application on those stains and remove the residue that is surfacing and continues to be a part of you?

Application:

Don’t continue to settle with the stains and residue that are residing upon your heart. Sometimes you have to go back and face the residue before you can move forward.

Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distress (Psalm 107:6).

In my anguish, I cried to the Lord, and he answered by setting me free (Psalm 118:5).

“The Hurt Whisperer”

How many times in our lives have we allowed situations to be dedicated by our thoughts? Words like, “You are not good enough, pretty enough, or you can’t do that or you will never change”. Sound familiar?  Especially when someone has offended you over and over again, those thoughts begin to get louder and louder.  Have you ever sat back and wondered why do they seem so magnified in the midst of a situation?

Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour ( 1 Peter 5:8, New International Version).

Those thoughts are created by “The Hurt Whisper”, the enemy himself is out to destroy us, paralyze us from pushing forward, keeping us from our dreams that they eventually enable us.  When we seem stuck in an area of our lives and do not know why.  He comes in so sly and drops little seeds eventually you have a “garden of lies”.  Quite frankly we are keeping him in business every time we play those thoughts over in our minds.  To the point that they become part of us and see it displayed in our responses, actions and behaviors within our homes, workplace and towards our family.

The Hurt Whisper knows that if we continue to hit “replay” that recorder will turn on listening and taking it in, like a student taking notes from his professor. Then wonder “Why am I still struggling in this area or why can I get out of this situation”.

How do we start to combat “The Hurt Whisper”?  With the word of God, with submitting those horrible thoughts that are trying to destroy you.  We begin by exposing those thoughts to someone who can hold you accountable.

When those thought are whispered in your ears ask, “Where is this coming from”  Does this align with the word of God?  God says, “We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ (2 Corinthians 10:5, New International Version).

So, what is being whispered to you?

Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free ( John 8:32, New International Version).
